FELLOWS PROGRAM OVERVIEW

The Center for Pastor Theologians fellowship community is our flagship formational program for pastors and ministry leaders. Fellows are selected through a competitive application process to join a group that meets for an initial six-year term, guiding members through a unique curriculum designed to shape them into their identity as pastor theologians. This is an exciting and one-of-a-kind opportunity for a minister to be formed in community with like-minded individuals and rub shoulders with high-level theologians and scholars. Past consultants and mentors for these groups include: Kevin Vanhoozer, Douglas Sweeney, Angela Dienhart Hancock, Simeon Zahl, Gregg Allison, Fred Sanders, Timothy George, Peter Leithart, and many more.

This goals of this program are threefold: 1) to create interdenominational fellowship and deep relational bonds within the pastoral community, 2) to deliver excellent ongoing education and professional development for highly-qualified pastor theologians, and 3) to provide spiritual formation and mentorship for early-career pastors from seasoned pastor theologians.

The six-year formational curriculum proceeds according to the following structure:

  • Year 1 – The Identity of the Pastor Theologian

  • Year 2 – The Practice of Ecclesial Theology

  • Year 3 – The Ministry of the Pastor Theologian: Preaching and Worship

  • Year 4 – The Ministry of the Pastor Theologian: Scholarship, Writing, and the Life of the Mind

  • Year 5 – The Ministry of the Pastor Theologian: Shepherding and Discipleship

  • Year 6 – Capstone Year

Each fellowship meets annually for a three-day symposium at historic Calvary Memorial Church in Oak Park, IL. These meetings are supplemented by bi-monthly virtual meetings to discuss readings and hear guest presenters, as well as one-on-one calls with the group’s pastoral mentor.

**The most recent Fellows Program application deadline has passed, but we continue to accept applications for consideration in current or future fellowships. Please contact CPT Director of Programs, Zachary Wagner, with any questions.
